Human design chart: what it is and the five types

A human design chart is a map of how you tend to work, decide and relate, built from your birth date, time and place. It sorts people into five types, and gives each type a strategy, a signature feeling and a not-self feeling. This page explains the five types in plain words. It does not print a full bodygraph.

There are five types: Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Manifestor and Reflector. Each describes a broad way of acting and making decisions, not a fixed personality. Most people recognise parts of their type and parts that fit someone else.

What a human design chart is

A human design chart is read off a map called a bodygraph. It is built from the moment you were born and the place you were born. The bodygraph marks nine centres, the channels between them, and a set of gates, and it also uses a second chart cast from about three months before birth, called the design side. From all of that, the system reads your type, your authority and a set of tendencies. Treat it as a lens on how you operate, not a verdict about who you are.

The five types, in short

Generators are built to respond and to work at something they enjoy. Manifesting Generators respond and then move fast, often skipping steps. Projectors are built to guide others when invited, rather than to out work them. Manifestors are built to start things on their own and to tell people first. Reflectors are rare and take their read of a situation from the people and the place around them.

What strategy means

Strategy is the one move each type is advised to make before acting. It is not a rule about what to do with your life, it is a way of taking the next step that tends to go better. A Generator responds. A Projector waits for an invitation. A Manifestor informs people first. A Reflector waits a full lunar cycle before a big decision.

What authority means

Your authority is how you reach a decision that holds, and it is often different from your type. Emotional authority waits for a feeling to settle over time, rather than deciding at the peak of it. Sacral authority answers with a gut yes or no in the moment. Splenic authority is a fast, quiet knowing. Ego authority decides from what you truly want. Self-projected and mental authority talks a decision out loud and needs the right place and people. Lunar authority, for Reflectors, waits about twenty eight days.

Where a type can mislead you

A type is written wide on purpose, so it fits millions of people. It can name your shape but not your week. A type cannot see the situation you are in right now, and it never changes its mind. Used alone it tends to feel true and stay general, and it rarely changes anything you actually do.

How to find your type

A type comes from a full bodygraph, and a bodygraph needs your birth date, your birth time and your birth place. There is no honest way to guess it from a birth date alone. This site does not print a bodygraph or fake one. If you want the real chart, use a tool that computes the whole thing from those three details. If you want to know how you actually operate, in your own weeks, that is what Natus is for.

Common questions

What is a human design chart in simple terms?

It is a map of how you tend to operate, built from your birth details. It sorts you into one of five types and gives that type a strategy and a way of deciding. It is a lens, not a prediction.

What are the five human design types?

Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Manifestor and Reflector. Generators and Manifesting Generators are the most common, Projectors are next, Manifestors are uncommon and Reflectors are rare.

Do I need my birth time for a human design chart?

Yes. A full bodygraph is worked out from your exact birth date, time and place, so a missing birth time makes it less exact. The type can sometimes still be read when the time is close, but the chart will not be reliable without it.

Does Natus work out my human design chart?

This page does not print a bodygraph and Natus does not claim to. Natus builds a personal blueprint from your birth details, then reads your real week against it so you can see where the map fits you and where it does not.
